Utrecht Walking Tour | Hidden Gems, Local Stories & Timeless Streets

Utrecht may just be the Netherlands’ best-kept secret.
The New York Times calls it a city that deserves more than a day trip from Amsterdam. And according to news.com.au, it has the most beautiful canals in Europe. We couldn’t agree more.

With its iconic Dom Tower, peaceful courtyards, historic churches, and lively canals, Utrecht is both timeless and full of surprises.

Tour description Utrecht

A private walking tour is the perfect way to experience the historical city of Utrecht. You’ll meet your guide either at the Stationsplein (if arriving by train) or at Vredenburgplein (if you’re already in the city). From there, you’ll explore Utrecht’s old city center at a relaxed pace.

Along the way, your guide will share stories from Utrecht’s long and layered history — from Roman foundations to medieval churches and everyday life today. You’ll stroll through quiet cobbled streets and leafy churchyards, all leading to the Oudegracht — Utrecht’s 1.5-mile-long canal that’s been the city’s main artery for centuries.

Lined with cafés, bridges, and hidden corners, the canal reveals the rhythm of daily life. And in the heart of it all: the Dom Church and Tower, dating back to the 13th century. Still the city’s proudest landmark.

Depending on your preferences, the tour ends either on the charming Jansbrug above the Oudegracht, or back where you started at Vredenburgplein or Stationsplein.

✨ Perhaps after the tour you are interested in going to the tower's top to experience the amazing bird’s eye view. Or maybe you'd like to do something different and paddle board on the canal. Or visit 't Taphuys, Oudaen or Olivier for a beer or wine tasting!
