Haarlem Walking Tour – Historic Streets & Hidden Gems
Begin your journey at the Grote Markt and wander through Haarlem’s hidden hofjes, the old Bakenessebuurt, and the poignant Corrie ten Boom House. Experience personal stories of Jewish heritage, Flemish architecture, and interactive anecdotes from a passionate guide.
Tour description Haarlem
Haarlem is one of the Netherlands’ oldest cities — and still one of its best kept secrets. Just steps from the lively Grote Markt, you’ll find peaceful courtyards, quiet alleyways, and neighborhoods that seem untouched by time.
This walk takes you through places with real character. From the Five Corners district to the Bakenessebuurt and hidden hofjes behind centuries-old façades. Along the way, you’ll hear stories about local painters like Frans Hals, Flemish influences in the city’s architecture, and the daily life of past generations.
There’s space for reflection, too — like at the Corrie ten Boom House and other sites tied to Jewish life and World War II. Always shared with care, never dramatized.
The tour begins and ends at the Grote Markt. It moves at a gentle pace, with plenty of room for questions, conversation, and quiet moments. Just the way Haarlem deserves to be explored.

Beer Tasting in a Church 🍻
Feel like indulging yourself in local culture in Haarlem? Visit Jopenkerk, an old church that was turned into a brewery. The story behind Jopen starts in the 14th century when Haarlem grew into one of the most important brewing cities in Holland. The liquid barley was transported in 'Jopen'; barrels of 112 liters (± 30 gallons).
Ask your guide to point out the brewery during the walking tour so you know where to go to for this unique experience. Make sure to try their delicious bitterballen!
