SECRETS OF HAARLEM
The medieval city of Haarlem with its picture perfect cityscape is probably what you imagined the Netherlands to be like if you've never been to our small country before. Located in the center of the bulb-region and nick-named by many as Little Amsterdam, in this charming city you will not only find a windmill along the river, a grand cathedral and beautiful historical houses with classical facades but also a vibrant yet relaxed atmosphere.
The easiest way (and place) to meet your guide is right outside Haarlem Central Station from where you start this exciting walking tour of Haarlem. Let your guide take you on a journey through the historical city center and walk through narrow alleys where no other tourists are to be found. Discover hidden courtyards and pass by beautiful historical sights that give the city both its allure and quaintness.
Haarlem has always been important and prominent in Holland and it once was a major North Sea trading port surrounded by a defensive wall. In the Dutch 17th century the city was a popular place to live and stay for the rich and powerful. The architectural wealth from those controversial and dark days is still seen all over the city, just like its medieval character with cobble-stoned streets and gabled houses. Learn about the city’s radiant history and culture and let yourself be entertained by the interesting stories your guide shares. And not unimportant, if you are into photography then Haarlem will exceed your wildest dreams.
It only takes a safe, convenient and direct 15-minute train ride to escape the city crowds of Amsterdam yet hardly any tourist finds its way to this stately city. A visit to Haarlem is a great way to see how the country is outside Amsterdam. Here you find these amazing views of Holland that you see published everywhere.

Beer Tasting in a Church 🍻
Feel like indulging yourself in local culture in Haarlem? Visit Jopenkerk, an old church that was turned into a brewery. The story behind Jopen starts in the 14th century when Haarlem grew into one of the most important brewing cities in Holland. The liquid barley was transported in 'Jopen'; barrels of 112 liters (± 30 gallons).
Ask your guide to point out the brewery during the walking tour so you know where to go to for this unique experience. Make sure to try their delicious bitterballen!
