UTRECHT WALKING TOUR

Whereas the NY Times describes Utrecht as a city that deserves more than a pleasant day trip from Amsterdam, according to the leading Australian news site, news.com.au, the city has the most beautiful canals of Europe. And they are right. With its iconic Dom Tower, churchyards, the old city center and its canals, Utrecht is absolutely stunning.

A walking tour of Utrecht is a fantastic way to discover Utrecht. Meet your guide at Vredenburgplein, the square nearby the train station and The Mall.  Embark on a walking tour through the old city center with an enthusiastic guide and learn about the city’s history that started around 2,000 years ago when Utrecht was part of the Limes; the northern border of the Roman Empire. Follow your guide through little cobbled streets and churchyards; all leading to what has been for centuries the city’s main artery, the 1.5 mile long old canal Oudegracht. Along and nearby the canal there are many cafes and restaurants.  A great way to getting to know the city with all its 'secrets'! The city's main square in the heart of the city center cannot be missed for it houses the historical Dom Church that dates back to the 1200s!. With its dominating tower it is Utrecht's pride and joy.

Perhaps after the tour you are interested in going to the tower's top to experience the amazing bird’s eye view. Or maybe you'd like to do something different and paddle board on the canal. Or visit 't Taphuys or Olivier for a beer or wine tasting

Every 10 to 15  minutes a direct train departs from Amsterdam Central Station to Utrecht Central Station. For more travel information and to book train tickets check the website of the national railway company.
